The Problem

My Hair Care tackles the issue of limited access to quality hair care services and education in the community, fostering community support and empowering local businesses and social initiatives.

The Solution

My Hair Care’s website aims to be a user-friendly platform, enabling customers to effortlessly discover salon services, community initiatives, and engage through stylist reviews and newsletter subscriptions.

Summary

Our qualitative research revealed that our target audience sought not only hair care professionals and products but also a sense of community and educational resources, prompting us to expand the app’s features to include forums for discussions and articles on hair care tips and techniques.

Usability Study

Based on insights from an unmoderated usability study, improvements were made to the My Hair Care app, addressing user feedback by enhancing the visibility of the ‘Tips’ section, optimizing the prominence of the ‘Search’ button, and refining the navigation for the ‘Styling’ tabs to ensure a more intuitive and user-friendly experience.

MockUps

Using insights from the usability study, I leveraged the color scheme to enhance the visibility of the search icon and improved the identification of the tips page selection.” I made adjustments to the template, enabling a clearer view and description of the desired style, and added an overlay of the style card upon selection to provide users with a clear indication of their chosen item.

Takeways

After a usability study, users expressed high satisfaction with the hair care app, citing its usefulness in finding the best stylist and accessing personalized hair care advice. The website’s positive impact on the local community is evident, serving as a valuable resource and connecting users with top stylists in the area. By conducting research and user testing, I uncovered valuable insights and addressed pain points, resulting in a highly usable and relevant final product, highlighting the significance of user feedback in driving design decisions.

The Problem

Mentor.com addresses the prevalent challenge faced by young professionals in locating local mentors who can offer valuable career guidance and facilitate meaningful connections within their industry, providing a game-changing solution to bridge this gap.

The Solution

Mentor.com is a dynamic website that brings together ambitious young professionals, connecting them with knowledgeable mentors in their fields and providing a supportive network for guidance and inspiration in both career and life goals.

Summary

User interviews revealed young professionals struggled to connect with mentors and peers in their area. Existing platforms were either too broad or social-focused, making it challenging to find niche professionals. Mentor.com fills this gap.

Usability Study

Users found the tasks on Mentor.com easy and straightforward to complete. They suggested adding the interactive map to the top navigation bar, aligning it with the mentor and events tabs. The absence of a button for accessing the Events page on the home page caused confusion, highlighting the need for a consistent user interface design.

MockUps

Based on user feedback, changes were implemented to enhance usability. An image on the events page now includes a clickable button. A subscription button was added, and a "Get Started" button was introduced for a seamless onboarding experience with users.

Users expressed enthusiasm for the website, recognizing its value in their daily lives and fulfilling a desired niche. The intuitive and user-friendly design resulted in an enjoyable experience. Consistency among elements proved invaluable in enhancing the user's journey.

The Problem

Mechanics and novices alike face challenges in sourcing mechanic parts within their budget, necessitating a UX design solution to simplify the process and meet their specific needs.

The Solution

Auto Select is an innovative app that enables users to effortlessly discover budget-friendly parts and gain insights into essential maintenance practices for maximizing their vehicle's lifespan.

Summary

Interviews with users unveiled a wider target audience for the app beyond mechanics, necessitating design considerations for both mechanics and non-mechanics and informing the development process.

Usability Study

Usability studies revealed crucial insights that guided the evolution of Auto Select. The app now prioritizes sourcing local parts with quick ordering turnaround, provides comprehensive maintenance guidance for all experience levels, establishes a trusted platform for finding parts and seeking assistance, and streamlines the user interface to eliminate the complexities of text-heavy DIY mechanic apps.

User research comprised two rounds of usability studies. The first informed the overall design, aesthetics, and functionality of the app, while the second aimed to enhance user flow and ensure a seamless experience.

Takeways

Through this project, we crafted an app that instills confidence in both experienced and inexperienced mechanics to perform basic vehicle maintenance. Moreover, it highlighted the value of continuous iteration, demonstrating how even great ideas can be refined to better serve user needs.
